// When the first infection with the COVID-19 virus was detected in China in mid-November 2019, many did not think that this number would rise to more than 4 million infected worldwide. In Europe, from the very beginning of the spread of the disease, Italy was the main focus of the virus. Therefore, it was expected that strict measures would soon enter into force throughout Slovenia. The first indicators of change were police border controls, where medical staff measured passengers’ body temperatures. Border crossings were also closed shortly and quarantine was declared in the country. It was an opportunity for me as a photographer to capture some key actions and moments in Nova Gorica and its surroundings: closed borders, conversations through the newly erected fence, empty city when most shops, companies and inns were closed, hand disinfection, doctors in protective wear, police patrols checking documents, and an agriculture minister surrounded by journalists in protective masks. Although the situation shown has turned our everyday lives upside down, such changes seem to me to be quite important. Mankind has been spoiled in the last century by material abundance and the belief in its power over the Earth. And to realize its vulnerability and smallness, an even smaller pathogen was needed, which stopped time all over the world and proved that man is somehow subordinate to nature and its ruthlessness.
