Vida – napovednik diplomskega filma // BA film trailer
Pietro Cromaz

Kraljica Vida brani svoje ljudstvo pred vpadom Atile in Hunov. // A queen named Vida protects her people from the invasion of Attila and the Huns.

-Pietro Cromaz// Vida is a legend coming from the folk culture of Slavia Friulana. It is set in San Giovanni d’Antro, a village located few kilometers away from Špeter, which is the town where I come from. The adaption of this story into a script comes from the desire to produce a short film as a tribute to Benečija, a land that allowed me to get in touch with two different cultures. These valleys carry a rich cultural background, which is at the same time hidden to the outside world, because of problems such as isolation and loack of accessibility. Throughout this region is visible a decline in population. Folk traditions, costumes, ceremonies, start disappearing. The purpose as an author is to enchance the folklore of Slavia Friulana through my diploma work and to contribute building concrete proof of existence of this culture. Popular traditions and local costumes are important to create and mantain own identity in a context of a vaster society. In modern and post modern society, the problem of globalisation caused a rejection of popular culture, which instead has to be enchanced and carried into the future not as a burden, but as a symbol of belonging to a particular community. A community without its traditions is a society without a soul, a sand castle destined to be washed away by the first wave of the sea, by the first gust of wind. –Pietro Cromaz
